Jean-Jacques ELANGUE (Tenor Sax - Compositions)

 

  • Born in France the 1st of August 1967 to parents from Cameroon, he studies music alone while in school at Yaoundé (Cameroon), and develops his knowledge of Jazz through the music of Charlie Parker.
  • He played at Jazz Festival "Jazz sous les Manguiers" in Yaoundé from 1990 to 1993 where he meets with Pharoah Sanders.
  • Coming back in France in 1992 to participate to the play "Dom Juan" directed by Alexandre Fabre, he decided to stay there and composes the music of Yves Borrini 's play "Pourquoi j'ai mangé mon père" named after Roy Lewis.
  • He records with the famous African drummer Brice Wassy's band "Tchokola"
  • Jean-Jacques Graduated in Jazz from Marseille National Consevatory, where he won the first prize in 1995 with saxaphonist Raphaël Imbert.
  • That same year he created the "Hemlé Orchestra" which toured extensively in southern France @ Cité de la Musique in Marseille, Théatre des Salins in Martigues, at the Festival International des Big Bands in Aix en Provence, at "Fiesta du Sud" in Marseille in 1996...
  • During the year 1996, he tours with drummer Brice Wassy in South Africa, Berlin, records in London and leave to Cameroon with teh quartet of the famous French pianist Claudine François, with whom he continues to play in various formations, from duo to the Metis Quintet .
  • He records in Irlande and tours in Europe, Marocco, Singapour and Chine with band "Accoules Sax". He also plays with his own trio and leads a quartet of saxaphones.
  • Graduating as a Jazz Teacher from he teaches classes in Conservatoires de Marseille and Niort.
  • For the 2600 anniversary of Marseille he directed more than 100 musicians, realising an incredible and remarkable performance in 2000.
  • He joins Boogaloo Baby in 2002 and creates his own African band Los Africanos with trumpet and bugle Nicolas Genest (Ultramarine, Groove Gang), Carribbean pianist Mario Canonge (Roy Hargrove, Richard Bona), bass player Linley Marthe (Joe Zawinul) and drummer Felix Sabal Lecco (Sting, Peter Gabriel) with whom he records in September 2004 in Paris.
