-
Disciple of Art Pepper and Charlie Parker, talented swingman Patrick Bocquel strated his professional musical career in the 90's.
-
With his own band ("Bocquel Connection"), he won several awards in jazz contests like La Défense (in Paris), or Coutances (in Normandy) after which Radio France produced his first record ("Radio Nights" 1994).
-
After that , Patrick won a scholar ("Lavoisier") from the French Department of Foreign Affairs to go studying in N.Y.C in 1995 with Vincent Herring et Bill Pierce...
-
Following his return from N.Y.C. , Patrick played with a lot of young French jazz musiciens, some of them becoming famous. He was one of the founding members of collective "les Nuits Blanches" in Paris with Baptiste Trottignon, Olivier Temine among others... He was also one of the active members of Magnetic Big Band directed by Gilles Réa and Ludovic de Preissac.
-
Patrick plays currently ine the salsa big band"Mambo Legacy", music that he loves also a lot since these traditionnal songs remind him of the Jazz standards that remain his first center of interest.
-
Patrick played also in small combos in various festivals like London ("Jazz Umbrella") and Beirut ("Heineken Jazz Festival").
- Claiming to be influenced by Cannonbal Adderley and Paul Desmond, he is evenly at ease in a big band setting or a smaller combo and maintain with brio the hard bop flame.
- Patrick is also a subtile composer which can be verified on the next CD of Philippe Amizet Quintet ("Mi Ricordo", and the title track, "Five Cats at the Window").
